Hay y'all.
I've been repairing stuff and decided to just put an ad up here since I am out of a job and need werk.

Tube Amps
Solid State Amps
Mixers
Guitars/Basses (non-woodworking projects plz)

And whatever other music/audio equipment you can throw my way.

PRICING
I don't charge an hourly rate and just charge based on the job, usually it will be at least $20 unless it's something super simple. If I don't fix it, I won't charge anything. Sometimes I can even accept gear as payment, but would prefer cash. Turnover time is typically 1-2 weeks depending on how busy I am.

MODZ
If you want something modified, I shouldn't have a problem doing that as well.

Recent repairs include:
Marshall - JCM200 TSL100, JCM900 SL-X
Ceriatone JCM800 2204 HW (hand wired Marshall JCM800 clone)
Ampeg SVT-35H (solid state bass head)

Other stuff I can remember:
Peavey Classic 50
Mackie Onyx 1604 firewire mixer
small Alesis usb 2 mixer
converted some low gain phono amp into high gain guitar amp, sounded like a fender deluxe about to ASPLODE (think Neil young y'all)
Ampeg VL-1002 (my favorite personal amp that i'm constantly fiddling with)

You don't happen to build amplifier heads from the ground up, do you? I'm looking to buy a tube amp at tax time and that would be cool as all hell.

I actually haven't tried that yet. The closest I've come to that is taking old hifi equipment and modding it for guitar use, you have to modify the gain stages/tone stack for more drive since hifi is engineered to be very, very clean.

There are lots of places around the net that sells kits and all, but to me it seems to end up cheaper just buying a used already assembled head. For example, why buy a jcm800, or a clone when you can probably find a peavey windsor for like $150-200. yeah the build quality isn't as 'good', but it's good enough.

If you bought a kit or something, I could probably put it together for you.

I saw a Windsor at a pawn shop here in town, those sound pretty good? What amp would you say they're comparable to?

They're like a JCM800 with less clean tone and more gain.
I had one and sold it to the other 40oz Folklore guitarist

It's kind of a one trick pony, but the trick is very good. I want to get another one.
I was working on adding a clean mode/channel, but never finished the project before I sold it.

You can turn the gain down and get really good clean sounds, but there's not really a way to get both clean and high gain at the same time, it doesn't respond to volume knob changes that well when the gain is up high.

If you try one out at a store, the trick is to have the master volume UP. This is an old school type amp and sounds best with the master turned up.

Here's my clips:

Building amps from the ground up is easy. I just built a Soldano SLO clone's preamp and power amp boards. It was time consuming bending the leads, setting them in place, soldering, etc...but then again the SLO Clone has a shitload of components on the preamp board. They are for sale by the way ;)

Hmm, that might be cool. I'm looking for an amp that I can more or less add distortion to anyway, like a Rat pedal or something and I don't need 3000 knobs to be fiddling with all the time.

and by the way arterial red, the windsors are cool amps. has the effects loop in front like the VTM and while i was used to having it in the back like on my other amps, it's not bad. like sloan says it doesnt clean up that well, even when rolling off the volume or fiddling with the pre and post gains, but it does have a hot british crunch to it and gets pretty hot. when i worked at guitar center, after we closed, i used to melt faces and the windsor was my amp of choice most times.

Hmm, definitely have to look into those then. How would you guys rate the VTM vs. the Windsor? I noticed there was one for sale on here somewhere...

lol yea it's my amp ;)

the vtm is more versatile because it has the dip switches to add 2 extra gain stages, extra bass or mids, compression, etc. like people say, it's every different JCM800 mod popular in the 80s, done to one amp, that's switchable on or off. plus its USA made where the Windsors are chinese made. plus i just recapped the VTM so its good to go for at least 64 more years. it does real well with overdrive pedals and gets a pretty hot distortion. not super heavy mega evil distortion like some of the modern super high gain amps, but its pretty nice, and cleans up fairly well when the volume is rolled off

Here is a Fender Twin that I just finished working with. I haven't played a Fender amp in a long time since I got rid of my Hot Rod Deluxe (i haeted that amp) and I found myself liking this amp a whole lot. Sounds great clean and the overdrive is good too. The clip is with pretty much everything straight up in the middle just to give a good idea of the general voicing. Paired with this humbucker, it's a bit mid heavy.

This is a Fender Super Twin Reverb that I just worked on. It got all new electrolytic capacitors and had some issues with the jewel light and some loose connections.

This amp is amazingly bassy and sounds super awesome as a bass amp, as a guitar amp, I had to town the bass down when it got louder so that my speakers would blow. Serious low end. The 5-band eq on this amp is very cool, but the built in distortion circuit is awful. Personally, if this were mine I would convert it into a bass head like some others have done as that is where it really shines.

Hey, to anyone considering letting Sloan repair an amp, I highly recommend him. I recently had him work on my JCM 800 and well, he fixed it. I received a phone call the next day from him letting me know that he had found the problem and what it would take to correct it. He ordered the parts and had it up and running the day the parts arrived. My amp works and sounds great, and it costed me less than it would've cost just to ship it to Atl or Nash, not to mention work done or return shipping. Great job Sloan!!! Thanks!!!
